United States Marine Corps Veteran, honorably discharged (1979)
Bill has served as legal counsel for the School District 200 Trades Program and is a proud member of the McHenry County Bar Association. His background as a professor and public servant has shaped a practice focused on education, empowerment, and ethical service.

Beyond his legal practice, Bill Hellyer has remained deeply involved in the community. His résumé includes:
- Former Director of the Fox Waterway Agency
- 18 years as Committee Chair for Boy Scout Troop 151
- 5 years as moderator of the Church Council at Congregational Church of Algonquin
